On 29th August 2016, at the Convention Center of Cao Bang Province, the Cao Bang DCST and VIGMR (MONRE) have co-organized an awareness raising workshop on Geopark and Geoheritage for administrative leaders and managers of Cao Bang Province.
Attending the workshop were Mr. Nguyen Trung Thao, Vice-Chairman of the Cao Bang’s Provincial People’s Committee, Vice-Chairman of the Cao Bang Aspiring Geopark Steering Committee; Mr. Thai Hong Thinh, Director of the Cao Bang DONRE, Standing Vice-Chairman of the Cao Bang Aspiring Geopark Steering Committee; Mr. Sam Viet An, Director of the Cao Bang DCST, Vice-Chairman the Cao Bang Aspiring Geopark Steering Committee; Dr. Tran Tan Van, Director of VIGMR; leaders of some departments and sectors; and representatives of the Division of Natural Resources and Environment, Culture and Information of districts and cities; and assisting staffs of the Cao Bang Aspiring Geopark Steering Committee.
The over view of workshop.
At the workshop, scientists from VIGMR gave an overview on geoheritage and geopark, geopark model, the process of becoming a UNESCO Global Geopark etc. Especially, the scientists introduced geoheritage potentials, values of caves as well as of culture, history and biodiversity in the Cao Bang Aspiring Geopark, according to the results obtained through the surveys in the last few years of research.

The aim was to promote awareness and responsibility of the authorities and local communities, through which, rational protection and exploitation of natural resources would be obtained. Tourism promotion in combination with discovery and conservation of geoheritage, cultural heritage, biodiversity and environmental protection would also be carried out. Through the workshop, the participants had an overview of geopark, geoheritage, cultural, historical heritage and biodiversity in the Cao Bang Aspiring Geopark.
