Capacity-building workshop on interpretation and tour guiding skills for local communities and partners of Non nuoc Cao Bang Geopark

On April 28, the Management Board of Non nuoc Cao Bang Geopark organized a training workshop entitled sustainable tourism in line with UNESCO criteria through interpretation of traditional craft villages and Geopark heritage sites, aiming to create livelihoods and foster community development at tourist attractions and Non nuoc Cao Bang Geopark partners' establishments.

Attending the workshop were representatives of local authorities, receptionists at Geopark partner establishments, and local residents who are living and engaging in tourism activities at heritage sites within the Geopark.

During the training program, participants were provided with an overview of Non nuoc Cao Bang Geopark, including its outstanding geological values, natural landscapes, and indigenous cultural heritage of the Geopark’s four tourism routes. Participants were also equipped with basic communication, reception and guiding skills, developing interpretive narratives for specific heritage sites, and practical skills for organizing services and handling unexpected situations when guiding visitors.

Attending the workshop, the participants had a chance to discuss and practice their drafted interpretive narratives and enhance reception skills to enhance their ability to apply these skills in real-world settings. These activities helped raise participants’ awareness of the important role of interpretation and guiding in community-based tourism, contributing to the promotion of heritage values and the local image to visitors and tourists.

This training workshop aimed to improve knowledge and skills for participants while creating a platform for exchanging practical experiences in community-based tourism. It also contributed to building capacity for local communities living near heritage sites and the reception staff at partner establishments, toward the goals of sustainable tourism development, increased livelihood opportunities, and the preservation and promotion of the heritage values of Non nuoc Cao Bang Geopark.

Practising interpretation skills

Improving the quality of interpretation and guiding at heritage sites not only leaves a positive impression on visitors but also supports the professional and sustainable development of community-based tourism. At the same time, it helps build the image of Non nuoc Cao Bang Geopark as a friendly and attractive destination for both domestic and international visitors.
