Capacity-building workshop on sustainable development and disaster response for communities in the Non Nuoc Cao Bang Geopark region

On May 19, 2025, the Management Board of the Non Nuoc Cao Bang Geopark organized a training workshop on sustainable development and disaster risk reduction for local communities in vulnerable areas within the geopark region.
Overview of the training workshop.
The training workshop was attended by representatives from the Department of Culture, Science, and Information of Nguyen Binh District, as well as the District Department of Agriculture and Environment. Participants also included local officials such as representatives of the People's Committees, Party Cell Secretaries, and Village Heads from the communes of Ca Thanh, The Duc, Yen Lac, Tinh Tuc, and Vu Nong (Nguyen Binh District).
Notably, the workshop featured lectures and expert knowledge sharing by Associate Professor Dr. Tran Tan Van, Member of the Advisory Board for the UNESCO Global Geoparks Network in the Asia-Pacific region (former Director General of the Vietnam Institute of Geosciences and Mineral Resources).
Ms. Hoang Thi Hue, the Management Board of Deputy Director of Non Nuoc Cao Bang Geopark, shared about the topic of Heritage Management, Conservation and Sustainable Tourism Development at the training workshop.
The training program focused on several key topics, including: heritage management, conservation, and sustainable tourism development; general knowledge and legal frameworks related to climate change; the current situation in Cao Bang and solutions for climate change adaptation; identifying climate change and geological hazard issues in the region; forecasting, early warning, preparedness, and disaster risk reduction; enhancing community capacity to respond to climate change, geological hazards, and natural disasters; as well as methods and practical skills for disaster preparedness and risk mitigation.
Mr. Hoang Khanh Hoa, Deputy Head of the Environmental Management Division under the Cao Bang Department of Agriculture and Environment, delivered a presentation on the topic "Current Situation in Cao Bang and Climate Change Adaptation Solutions."
During the training workshop, participants engaged in discussions and exchanges on practical issues related to climate change adaptation and geological hazards within the Non Nuoc Cao Bang Geopark.
Local-level insights and experiences were shared, helping to clarify existing challenges and contributing to the development of specific solutions tailored to the region’s natural and socio-economic conditions.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Tan Van, former Director General of the Vietnam Institute of Geosciences and Mineral Resources, shared about identifying geological hazards and natural disasters at the training worshop.
Through the training workshop, local communities gained a better understanding of the negative impacts of climate change, geological hazards, and natural disasters.
At the same time, participants, particularly grassroots-level officials in high-risk areas, were equipped with essential knowledge and skills to recognize and respond promptly to emergency situations related to natural and geological disasters.
This initiative not only contributes to environmental protection and the preservation of heritage values within the Non Nuoc Cao Bang Geopark, but also supports the goal of sustainable development by raising community awareness and responsibility in nature conservation, tourism development, and environmental resource protection.
