Conducting a field survey and experience exchange on environmental protection and tourism exploitation at Ha Long Bay World Heritage Site

From October 11-13, Non nuoc Cao Bang Geopark Management Board conducted a field survey and experience exchange on environmental protection, tourism exploitation and sustainable tourism at Ha Long Bay WH site (Quang Ninh Province). The delegation consists of the leaders and officers of the Management Board, official and aspiring partners of the Geopark.

In the recent years, Ha Long Bay has achieved significant results regarding environment action programs, tourism exploitation and sustainable development of the UNESCO Natural World Heritage Site. Following the working agenda, the Management Board of Non nuoc Cao Bang Geopark met with the Management Board of Ha Long Bay, discussed planning for conservation and promotion of heritage types in the UNESCO designated areas; the roles and responsibilities of tourist service providers in the conservation defined areas; experience in developing the tourist fee collection scheme; environmental protection, etc.

Management Board related to developing tourist fee collection scheme, managing heritage sites and strengthening the responsibility of the Management Board’s partners in the environmental protection at heritage sites, etc. in the coming time.

Also following the schedule, the delegation conducted a field survey to learn about the management and conservation of Ha Long Bay Natural World Heritage Site and on-site environmental protection of the Ha Long Bay Management Board at a number of sites, including Thien Cung cave, Dau Go cave, Incensory Rock, rafting and kayaking at Ba Hang cave, etc. The delegation also conducted a field survey at some tourist service providing establishments in the Ha Long Natural World Heritage Site territory.

At surveyed sites, the delegation learned about the organizational structure, heritage site operational model, harnessing, conserving and developing tourism without bringing impacts to the local culture and environment; solutions to promote cultural values and landscapes to develop key tourist attractions, contributing to income improvement for the locals.
Through the survey and experience exchange, the delegation members had an opportunity to learned about and acquired experience related to developing the Geopark and drew lessons to harness tourism potential creatively, matching with practical conditions of Non nuoc Cao Bang Geopark. The trip also opened up an opportunity for cooperation between the Management Board of Non nuoc Cao Bang Geopark and Ha Long Bay Management Board, contributing to fostering the promotion of Non nuoc Cao Bang Geopark to domestic and international tourists.
