Eight Teams Advanced to the Final Round of the “Preserving the Tay and Nung Languages” Contest for Secondary and High School Students in the Geopark Region

On May 20, 2025, the Organizing Committee of the “Preserving the Tày and Nùng Languages for Secondary and High School Students in the Non Nuoc Cao Bang Geopark Region” held the Semifinal Round at the Cao Bang Provincial Cultural Center, featuring the participation of 12 competing teams.

The “Preserving the Tay and Nung Languages for Secondary and High School Students in the Non Nuoc Cao Bang Geopark Region” contest was officially launched in late March 2025. The competition is open to members of the “Geopark Ambassador” Clubs from secondary and high school located within the geopark area, including schools in Cao Bang City and the districts of Quang Hoa, Trung Khanh, Ha Lang, Hoa An, Ha Quang, Nguyen Binh, and Thach An.
Ms. Nong Thi Tuyen, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism delivered the opening speech of the semi-final round of the Contest.
The Preliminary Round received a total of 57 entries, including 35 submissions from secondary schools and 22 from high schools. The entries were well-prepared, scientifically grounded, and creatively presented, generating a positive impact within schools and the broader community.
The Semifinal Round featured 60 students and 28 teachers forming 12 teams, divided into two groups: secondary and high school. The teams competed in two segments: the “Excellent Communicator” presentation round and a talent showcase.
Hoang Thi Hue, Deputy Director of Non Nuoc Cao Bang Geopark Management Board, approved the rules and contents of the semi-final round.
In the “Excellent Communicator” segment, each team presented the outcomes of their language preservation initiatives conducted at school through the “Gepark Ambassador” Club. Presentations were delivered in either the Tay or Nung language, with a maximum duration of six minutes. Teams showcased their work using a variety of creative formats, combining live stage presentations with vivid supporting materials such as informational panels, wall newspapers, drawings, and short dramatizations.
Representatives of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism; Department of Education and Training presented souvenirs and certificates to schools participating in the Contest.
In the talent segment, teams performed in either the Tày or Nùng language, showcasing a wide range of creative expressions such as composing and reciting poetry and folk verses, adapting traditional songs with new lyrics, drawing, designing wall newspapers, performing skits or short plays, giving tourism presentations, and delivering speeches in their native language. Each performance was limited to a maximum of eight minutes.
The performances were vibrant and engaging, reflecting students’ creativity, national pride, and deep understanding of traditional culture. They played an important role in raising awareness and inspiring the younger generation to preserve and promote indigenous languages.

At the end of the Semifinal Round, the Organizing Committee selected the eight most outstanding teams to advance to the Final Round. These include four teams from the secondary level: Dong Khe Secondary School (Thach An district), Minh Thanh Secondary School (Nguyen Binh district), Noi Thon Primary and Secondary School, and Na Giang Secondary School (Ha Quang district); and four teams from the upper secondary level: Cao Bang Provincial Boarding School for Ethnic Minorities, Cao Binh High School (Cao Bang City), Thach An High School (Thach An district), and Dam Quang Trung High School (Ha Quang district).
The Final Round is scheduled to take place on May 29, 2025, at Khuoi Ky Stone Village in Trung Khanh District. Notably, the talent performances of the finalist teams will be featured on the official fan page of the Non Nuoc Cao Bang Geopark (https://www.facebook.com/CongviendiachatNonnuocCaoBang) for public voting in a special category: “Audience’s Favorite Performance.”

The contest carries profound educational significance, highlighting the role and responsibility of the younger generation in preserving ethnic languages as part of sustainable development in the Non Nuoc Cao Bang Geopark area. More than just an intellectual and creative playground, the competition has also generated wide-reaching media impact, capturing public attention and spreading a powerful message about safeguarding traditional languages and cultural values.
Through this initiative, the contest makes a meaningful contribution to the preservation of indigenous culture and promotes Cao Bang’s tourism image to both domestic and international friends.
