INTERNATIONAL DAY FOR DISASTER REDUCTION 13 OCTOBER

The Global Geoparks Network (GGN), is a non-profit International Association officially established in 2014 subject to French legislation. The Global Geoparks Network is the official partner of UNESCO for the operation of the UNESCO Global Geoparks; serves to develop models of best practice and set quality-standards for territories that integrate the protection preservation of Earth heritage sites in a strategy for regional sustainable economic development. Networking and collaboration among Global Geoparks is an important component of the Global Geoparks Network. The Global Geoparks Network promotes networking on a regional basis.
The 2018 theme continues as part of the "Sendai Seven" campaign, centred on the seven targets of the Sendai Framework. This year focuses on Target C of the Sendai Framework, reducing disaster economic losses in relation to global GDP by 2030. The year 2016 saw the launch of the "Sendai Seven" campaign by UNISDR, centred on the seven targets of the Sendai Framework, the first of which is reducing disaster mortality. The campaign sought to create a wave of awareness about actions taken to reduce mortality around the world. Last year’s target focused on prevention, protection and reducing the number of people affected by disasters. The Sendai Seven Campaign is an opportunity for all, including governments, local governments, community groups, civil society organisations, the private sector, international organisations and the UN family, to promote best practices at the international, regional and national level across all sectors, to reduce disaster risk and disaster losses.
For Global Geoparks in Asia – Pacific the Asia-Pacific Geoparks Network (APGN) acts as the Regional Network of the GGN. For Global Geoparks in Europe, the European Geoparks Network (EGN) acts as the Regional Network of the GGN. For Global Geoparks in Latin America and Caribbean, the Latin American and Caribbean Geoparks Network acts as the as the Regional Network of the GGN.
The objectives of the Global Geoparks Network are: to assist communities to value their natural and cultural heritage, preserve Earth heritage for present and future generations, etc, especially the objective to educate and teach the broad public about issues in geo-sciences and their relation with environmental matters and natural hazards.
The APGN CC in Adamello Brenta UGGp, Italy has agreed on strengthening the regional cooperation and common activities, escially on disaster reduction, this is going to be implemented through the promotion of activities of Geohazard working group of GGN. As the agreement reached in the APGN CC meeting, UNESCO and the Geohazard Working Group of GGN are cooperatively promoting activities in UGGps on the International Day of Disaster Reduction (IDDR).
Thus, for the fulfilmemt of the membership and responsibility of a UNESCO global geopark, GGN, and APGN, the implementation of disaster risk prevention and mititgation is obligatory to Non nuoc Cao Bang geopark; therefore it is very important for Non nuoc Cao Bang to schedule annual action plan for these activities, especiall the celebration of the 13/10 day.
