In his opening remarks, Deputy Director of the VNAT Pham Van Thuy underlined the critical importance of unlocking the potential of natural and cultural resources as a foundation for developing tourism strategies, plans, policies, and products. He emphasized that conducting comprehensive tourism resource investigations is a top priority for ensuring effective management and sustainable growth of the tourism industry. The investigated results will provide a detailed and multidimensional database on tourism resources, enabling single, consistent, and efficient management from central to local levels in planning, development, and exploitation of tourism resources.
The 2017 Law on Tourism outlines specific requirements for tourism resource investigation. This is a critical task with the national scale, demanding a methodical, all-encompassing, and meticulous implementation at every locality and for each resource category, to establish a sustainable and long-term database. On that basis, in 2024, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism issued a detailed Plan and Methodology on investigating tourism resources, defining clear roles for the Ministry and People’s Committees of Provinces and Cities to ensure synchronized and effective implementation nationwide.
Deputy Director of the VNAT urged local authorities to swiftly develop implementation plans for tourism resource investigations, aligning them with their state management responsibilities to enhance destination planning and the development of distinctive tourism products.
During the workshop, participants listened to presentations from VNAT representatives and Prof. Dr. Bui Thanh Thuy, Dean of the Faculty of Tourism, Hanoi University of Culture, on key topics including types of tourism resources, evaluation criteria and scoring frame on tourism resources, the tourism resource survey manual, implementation procedures, resource profiling, and data collection and synthesis templates. Delegates also engaged in discussions to address challenges and share experiences related to conducting investigations.
As part of the program, on June 25, participants carried out fieldtrip at Hanoi’s Thang Long Imperial Citadel and the Temple of Literature, practicing the application of evaluation criteria in real settings.
Non nuoc Cao Bang Geopark Management Board sent representatives to the workshop to learn about the technical knowledge, new policies, and strengthen their capacity for assessing and managing tourism resources in the Geopark territory. The event offered valuable opportunities for networking and knowledge exchange, contributing to improved conservation, sustainable resource utilization, and the development of Cao Bang’s tourism sector.
The workshop played an important role contributing into building a comprehensive overview of national tourism resources, laying the groundwork for more coordinated and effective tourism development strategies in the years ahead.
