In response to this meaningful event, the Management Board of Non Nuoc Cao Bang Geopark launched a campaign to encourage individuals, groups, people, students, etc. living in the Geopark area to participate in the Competitions to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Global Geopark Network. This is an opportunity for the local community to demonstrate their understanding of the values of Non Nuoc Cao Bang Geopark and their pride in their homeland; contributing to improving the effectiveness of communication and promotion of the UNESCO Non Nuoc Cao Bang Global Geopark in particular, and the cultural values, traditional history, and landscapes of Cao Bang province in general.
COMPETITION RULES
I. SCOPE AND PARTICIPANTS
1. Scope: Competitions organized by the Global Geopark Network at UNESCO Global Geoparks.
2. Participants:
- (Earth Visual Odyssey): Photographers.
- Stone’s stories Competition: Citizens living in the UNESCO Non Nuoc Cao Bang Global Geopark, no age limit;
- The 5 senses of your Geopark Competition: Students, teenagers, aged 12 - 18, living in the UNESCO Non Nuoc Cao Bang Global Geopark.
II. NAME, CONTENT, FORM
1. Name of the contests:
- Earth Visual Odyssey.
- Stone’s stories
- The 5 senses of your Geopark
2. Content of the contest:
- To honor the deep connection between people and the geological wonders of the Earth in the UNESCO Global Geoparks. The entries show images of landscapes, rocks, fossils, geology, the lives of people in the Geoparks, cultural values, and national identity;
- Comunicating and promoting outstanding values of geology, geomorphology, culture - history, biodiversity, natural landscapes and tourist attractions in the UNESCO Global Geopark Non Nuoc Cao Bang;
- Expressing individual love and responsibility for the homeland; spreading responsibility in the work of preserving, maintaining and promoting the values of the UNESCO Global Geopark Non Nuoc Cao Bang.
3. Contest format:
3.1 Earth Visual Odyssey
Entries must be in PDF, PNG or JPEG format, high resolution. RAW or TIFF format will not be accepted. File size must not exceed 5 megapixels. Minimum resolution is 1,600 pixels.
3.2 Stone’s stories
Entries must be in the form of an essay (in Vietnamese or English), 300 to 450 words long. The theme of the work revolves around the value of geological heritage: fossils, marine sediments, volcanic rocks, minerals, limestone landscapes... demonstrating the evolution and changes of the Earth and the relationship between humans and nature. Thereby contributing to promoting community participation in protecting and preserving the environment and nature. (illustrative photos may be attached).
3.3 The 5 senses of your Geopark
Entries must be in the form of an essay (in Vietnamese or English), 200 to 400 words long, divided into 5 parts. Each part is a paragraph of 200 to 400 words, describing the characteristics of the CVĐC area that make the experiencer associate with the senses: touch, sight, hearing, smell and taste (illustrative photos can be included).Relevant images must be in high resolution PDF, PNG or JPEG format. Images in RAW or TIFF format will not be accepted. File size must not exceed 10 megapixels. Minimum resolution is 1,600 pixels.
For audio (hearing), candidates can submit a short audio recording (mp3) recorded by smartphone.
* Contestants can participate as individuals or groups (classes, clubs, etc.). Each individual/group can only submit 1 entry.
III. TIME OF ORGANIZATION, HOW TO PARTICIPATE
1. How to register and submit entries:
Individuals/groups interested in the contests register to participate at the official website of the Global Geopark Network at the link https://ggn20anniversary.com;
2. Submission deadline: - Individuals/groups submit entries on the UNESCO Global Geopark Network website. Deadline for receiving entries via email: March 31, 2025.
3. Prizes:
- The winners of the competition will be honored and have the opportunity to participate in a special experience trip at one of the Geoparks in the Global Geopark Network.
- The prize will be announced in May 2025.
