Mr. Trinh Huu Khang, Vice Chairman of People’s committee of Cao Bang province, representative leaders and officers of Office of provincial people’s committee, Departments of Culture, sports and tourism; Environment and natural resources; Investment and planning; Management board of Non nuoc Cao Bang geopark.

On behalf of the delegate, Mr. Guy Martini, Chairperson of UNESCO global geopark council applaused efforts of the province in infrastructure investment for the 3 experience routes of Non nuoc Cao Bang geopark such as the panel system, promotional panels, parking areas, zebra crossing to ensure visitor safety, etc, implementation of communication activities on the geopark.

However, there are still some weaknesses in the management of heritage sites such as some of heritage sites are not properly used and protected; the sanitation and environment in heritage sites need to be improved significantly; there should be some marking lines to signify the parking areas for visitors; completion of direction panels of heritage sites for visitors; the information panels need to be replaced with suitable material and added with UNESCO logo. Cao Bang also has to improve infrastructure in some heritage sites in Hoa An district (access path to Nguom Boc site), Tra Linh, Quang Uyen, Ha Lang, and Trung Khanh.

In addition, it is necessary for Non nuoc Cao Bang geopark to collaborate with districts in the geopark to carry out field evaluation schedule regularly and manage the heritage sites better for timely action and prevention damages to heritages sites

To improve those weaknesses, Mr.Guy Martini suggested the PPC to decentralize the management of heritage sites to Management board of Non nuoc Cao Bang geopark for better monitoring and timely action; develop qualified human resources for the Management board; and train a group of professional geopark tour guides, etc.

Vice chairman of the People’s committee of Cao Bang province, Mr.Trinh Huu Khang hoped that the expert delegate would soon finish the detailed reports on the status of Non nuoc Cao Bang geopark and had it submitted to the province so that the province could develop action plan for protection and preservation of heritage sites in Non nuoc Cao Bang geopark. He suggested the delegate of UNESCO experts would support Cao Bang to develop the development strategy of Non nuoc Cao Bang geopark phase II 2018-2022.

Prior to the meeting, the UNESCO expert delegate conducted field evaluation mission in the three experience routes of Non nuoc Cao Bang geopark from August 5th -9th 2018.
