This monument is associated with the Dong Khe Victory, the opening battle for the victory of the 1950 Border Campaign against the French colonialism.
The battle for Dong Khe post took place from September 16th to September 18th, 1950. After 54 hours of combat, the Vietnam troops totally took this post; many examples of valiant fighting were recorded, representatives of them were La Van Cau, Tran Cu, Ly Viet Muu,...

Built in the early 1940s by the French army, on a hill with an area of more than 40,000 m2, the Dong Khe post was of strategical importance due to its location close to the Chinese border and its good connection with the surrounding provinces - A site convenient both for transportation and military purposes. In order to revive the events of the historical battle and to meet the demand for visiting and learning about history, a number of items was constructed and restored such as exhibition of the Dong Khe Victory, watchtower bunker, troop camp, tunnel system, barbed wire fence, etc...It is also the place to commemorate and pay tribute to heroic martyrs in Dong Khe martyrs cemetery who sacrificed for the independence of the nation.
Visiting Dong site is also a chance to enjoy beautiful natural landscapes of ThachAn district, a place of revolutionary tradition, hospitable people and to experience local specialties (sweet tangerines, winter melon, tasty Dong Khe duck Pho, black jelly, etc. ,). Dong Khe post belongs to the historical relic complex of the 1950 Border Campaign Victory which was recognized as a Special National Monument under the Decision No.2082/QĐ-TTg of Prime Minister dated December 25th, 2017.
