Cao Bang Geopark
GENERAL INFORMATION
The route “Times of fire flowers” to the South including Cao Bang City, Thach An District, Quang Hoa District is considered “the epic flaming route” because of intensive geological activities with typical indications of Cao Bang – Tien Yen deep-seated fault and magmatic eruptions from deep cracks 260 million years ago and the Epic of Highway 4 presenting evidences for genius leadership of President Ho Chi Minh and General Vo Nguyen Giap, the sacrifice and bravery of the army and people for the victory of the 1950 Border Campaign in the resistance against the French colonialism.
The South route is the place to discover the Earth science through geosites such as Ancient submarine volcano, lake of mollusk and lignite fossils in Neogene sediments, etc. Besides the epic of geology and history are ancient “nghien” (burretiodendron hsienmu) woods and rare endemic plants such as Dong Khe pear, mandarin, winter melon, etc. and especially, the aroma from boiling sugar pans of Bo To sugar traditional village like “flaming flowers”, or erupting volcanoes. The end of the route is Ta Lung international border gate - where the Vietnamese - Chinese friendship and border economy are increasingly developing.
