The area extension dossier of Non nuoc Cao Bang geopark was adopted

On December 11th 2021, the area extension dossier of Non nuoc Cao Bang Geopark was adopted by the UNESCO Global Geopark Council at its 6th session meeting held online from December 8th to December 11th.

Thang Hen complex and the interesting “tourlough” phenomenon

Located in Tra Linh district and belonged to the Eastern route of Non nuoc Cao Bang UGGp, Thang Hen lake system posses important and interesting geological values of international significances with astonishing landcapes. It can be regarded as must-see site for visitors. Thang Hen lake was recognized as a national scenic spot according to Decision No. 53/2001/QD-BVHTTDL of December 28th 2001 of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (MOCST). However, it is essential to mention the lake-caves-underground rivers system in this area.

The Phja Oac paronama

Located in the Western route of Non nuoc Cao Bang geopark-Experience Phja Oac, the mountains of transformation, and in the core zone of Phja Oac-Phja Den National park, the Phja Oac Paronama has an altitude of around 2000m asl with exceptional landscapes and unique climate in the area. The area is rich in bidodiversity with well-protected and primitive forest, especially the moss forest system with more than 2000 spicies of rare fauna and flora, some of which are listed in the red book of Viet Nam.

Apart from distinghuised significances of cultures, history, landscape and geology at international level, Non nuoc Cao Bang is considered as “land of caves”. There are many beautiful caves in Non nuoc Cao Bang geopark; some of them are famous in the world like Nguom Ngao, Doi (bat) cave and Nguom Puc. This writing will introduce another beautiful cave in Non nuoc Cao Bang, Ky Rang cave (locally known as Ghi Rang) with distinguished beauty and geological significances.

Typical late stage karst landforms in the east of Cao Bang Geopark (Quang Uyen, Trung Khanh, Phuc Hoa and Ha Lang districts)

In addition to the above described cave and lake systems, Cao Bang is famous for mature and old karst landscape with towers rising on large and flat karst fields on open and extended valleys. This landscape can be observed in many locations in the districts of Trung Khanh, Quang Uyen and Phuc Hoa etc.

Karst and Tectonic landform heritages in Non nuoc Cao Bang UNESCO global geopark

Karst landforms are the most characteristic feature of Cao Bang Geopark. Here one can find landforms representing the complete karst evolutionary cycle within a humid tropical environment, from early, through middle to late stages and in this respect Cao Bang Geopark can be considered a global model. In addition, the karst landscapes are usually accompanied by other geological heritages, especially tectonic landforms, and the paleontology heritages which are the added values to science, education and landscapes, and might be interesting to tourists. This writing will introduce some of the karst and tectonic landform in Non nuoc Cao Bang UNESCO global geopark.
