Workshop on developing guidline for geopark education in school

On February 25th 2020, Department of Education and training cooperated with the Management board of Non nuoc Cao Bang geopark to organize a workshop on developing Framework document and Guideline for geopark education through “Geopark discovery club in school”.Representative leaders of Department of Education and training, Management board of Non nuoc Cao Bang geopark and teachers of subjects like English, biology, geography, literature and history from 3 lower secondary schools and 3 Upper secondary schools participated at the Workshop.
The Workshop aimed at developing a framework document and guideline for the implementation of geopark education in school through “Geopark discovery club” model in school; ensuring the quality of geopark education in school and providing important information on cultures, history, geography, biology and environmental protection to students; raising awareness and making them proud of heritages in their communities. Aditionally, it targeted to support the implementation of SDGs of UN, especially the Criteria ii of a UNESCO global geopark “UNESCO Global Geoparks should use that heritage, in connection with all other aspects of that area’s natural and cultural heritage, to promote awareness of key issues facing society in the context of the dynamic planet we all live on, including but not limited to increasing knowledge and understanding of: geoprocesses; geohazards; climate change; the need for the sustainable use of Earth’s natural resources; the evolution of life and the empowerment of indigenous peoples”. This is one of 06 recommendations of UNESCO to Non nuoc Cao Bang UGGp.
Representative of Non nuoc Cao Bang geopark briefed on the overview of Non nuoc Cao Bang UGGp, the Goal, reasons and the contribution of “Geopark discovery club” activity; presented the framework documents and guidelines to be used by schools. After that participants Participants discussed, exchanged idea and comments on the framework documents and guidelines for the implementation of this activity in schools.
The “Geopark discovery club” activity to be piloted in 2020, after that Department of Education and training cooperate with Management board of Non nuoc Cao Bang geopark review the shortcomings and weakness of these documents, and then finalize them. These documents help assure the quality of geopark education activity in school, particularly the Goal number 4 on Education quality of United nation and contribute to the implementation of criteria of UNESCO on community education.
