"Finding youth representative to attend UNESCO Global Geoparks Youth Forum" was held with the objective to select the youth representative of Vietnam to attend the 1st UNESCO Global Geoparks Youth Forum organized by Global Geopark Network.
The topic of the contest was “Proposing actions contributing to 16 focus areas of UNESCO Global Geoparks and Sustainable Development Goals, Agenda 2030 of the UN”. Participating in the Contest were the candidates nominated by the management boards of Dong Van Karst Plateau, Ha Giang, Non nuoc Cao Bang and Dak Nong UGGp. All the contestants had good social knowledge, understanding about UNESCO global geoparks and sustainable tourism development, as well as leadership ability, fluent English communication and presentation skills.
Due to the impact of COVID-19 pandemic, the Contest was organized online. The contestants presented their ideas and answered judges’ questions in English. Beside that, the contestants’ CVs were another basis for the judges’ evaluation.
Representing Non nuoc Cao Bang UGGp, Le Thu Trang excellently convinced the judges with the well-prepared, practical and highly applicable idea "Em-vironment" together we protect our land, aiming at improving environmental issues in Cao Bang through “Geopark ambassador club”. The idea also clarified its contribution to the 16 focus areas of UNESCO Global Geoparks and Sustainable Development Goals, Agenda 2030.
With the first prize of this contest, Le Thu Trang became the official youth representative of Vietnam Geopark Network to participate in the 1st UNESCO Global Geoparks Youth Forum held in parallel with the 9th International Conference on UNESCO Global Geoaparks in Jeju, Korea. All the expense will be covered by Global Geopark Network and the Sub-committee for Vietnam UNESCO global geoparks.
The UNESCO Global Geoparks Youth Forum is an initiative of Global Geopark Network organized with the purpose to offer young people an opportunity to engage more concretely in the preparation of the philosophy mandate and activities of the UNESCO Global Geoparks, elaborate their contribution to the debates of the 9th International Conference on UNESCO Global Geoparks and foster their commitment to the realization of the future they want, being actors of change in their territories. They will elaborate their proposal for actions contributing to the UNESCO Global Geoparks strategic framework for action 2021-2025, to address heritage protection, natural hazards mitigation, climate change and sustainable development in general.
Previously, Le Thu Trang excellently surpassed 04 other contestants and won the first prize at the Provincial Final Round of "Youth with UNESCO Global Geoparks Forum" organized in the collaboration of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Provincial Youth Union.
