Non nuoc Cao Bang UGGp celebrates the International Day of the World’s Indigenous people

On August, 6th, 2021, Non nuoc Cao Bang UGGp celebrates the International day of Indigenous people through some exchange activities with Vietnam Geopark Network and UNESCO Global Geopark.

By the adoption of Resolution No. 49/214 of September, 23th, 1994, the United Nations decided to choose the day August 9th to boost the attention of the world community to the rights of indigenous peoples. It also marks the date of the inaugural session of the Working Group on Indigenous Populations at the United Nations.

This year’s theme is Leaving No One Behind: Indigenous peoples and the call for a new social contract. This activities focus on the livelihood equality, equity and tangible and intangible preservation of ethnic minority communities.

Global Geoparks can provide a respectful place for the Indigenous Peoples of the World that honours and respects their cultural contributions, their language, customs, and their deep understanding of the natural environment. The knowledge and culture of Indigenous Peoples enrich our Global Geoparks. On this International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples, Global Geoparks seek to lift up the voices of Indigenous Peoples and to celebrate their knowledge.

The UGGN always recongnizes, honors and respects their contributions in the field of culture, language, customs and folk knowledge about the natural environment to the common cultural tresaure of mankind. Cultural understanding of ethnic monirity enriches the activities of the UGGN. On the occasion of  the international day of Indeginous people, th UGGN aims to raise awareness of the international community about the role and rights of ethnic minoritis and honor their knowledge.

Non nuoc Cao Bang geopark always pays attention to the importance and the roles of ethnic communities living in Non nuoc Cao Bang Geopark territory. In the annual work plan of the Geopark, the disadvantaged groups and ethnic minority communities are always prioritized for support activities. Particularly, Non nuoc Cao Bang Geopark have been supporting a minority group living in a remote area, specifically the inventory activities of folk knowledge, traditional cultural customs and relegious practice in Hoai Khao village, Quang thanh commune, Nguyen Binh district for the consevation and promotion these cultural values and livehood improvement through community based tourism activities. The Management board of Non nuoc Cao Bang geopark are also planning for coming tranining courses on local tour-guide, art and folksong performance, cooking…to support Dao Tien ethnic community there to develop the environmental friendly activities, traditional culture preservation and livelihood improvement.
