UNESCO evaluators carried out the field survey on the North route of Non nuoc Cao Bang geopark “Experience History and Freedom”

On August 15th, 2022, the UNESCO evaluators Mr Artur Sa and Mr Jean Simon Pagè conducted a field survey on the North experience route of Non nuoc Cao Bang Geopark "Experience History and Freedom" in two districts of Quang Hoa and Trung Khanh. The representatives of Vietnam (National Commission for UNESCO) NatCom and the Institute of Geosciences and Mineral Resources (VIGMR) participated in the delegation.

The evaluation delegation visited and evaluated the following sites: King Le temple, Nguom Slua cave, Hoang Tung stone garden, Nguom Boc cave, Luong Noi brocade weaving village, Lung Luong ammonite, Nung Tri Cao temple, Soc Giang hanging valley, Pac Bo Special National Monument, Me Farmstay – a geopark partner. In addition, the delegation visited Toc Café and the geoproduct showroom of Ngan Ha Biotech Ltd. Co. , who are Non nuoc Cao Bang geopark partners in Cao Bang city.

At each site, local guides introduced to the UNESCO evaluators and members of the delegation the historical values and importance of the historical sites, the outstanding values of geological and cultural sites contributing to the local tourism development, activities of some geopark partners and their contribution in improving the local livelihood and living standard. Particularly, the conservation and development of the traditional brocade weaving craft of the Tay people to create jobs and increase income for locals.
In addition to evaluating the management, protection and use of the infrastructure system, the evaluators collected information regarding the productivity of Non nuoc Cao Bang geopark partners in order to come up with recommendations on the conservation and promotion of geosites, the development of the geopark, increasing living standards for local people.
On August 16th, the UNESCO evaluators will continue to carry out a field survey on the West route "Experience Phja Oac- The mountain of transformations” in Nguyen Binh district.
