Attending the survey were representatives of the Institute of Geosciences and Mineral Resources, the Subcommittee for Vietnam UNESCO Global Geoparks.
From May 22nd to May 25th, the delegation conducted a field survey of the heritage sites on 03 experience routes of Non nuoc Cao Bang geopark. On May 22nd and May 23rd, surveying the west route "Experience Phia Oac – The mountain of transformations" (in Nguyen Binh district), and the north route "Experience History and Freedom" (the districts of Hoa An, Ha Quang); on May 24th, surveying the East route "Experience traditional cultures in a wonderland" (Trung Khanh district).
At the heritage sites, the delegation surveyed and evaluated the management, protection and use of the facility system (panel system, information centers, etc), proposed tasks have to be performed in the preparation of the revalidation mission, and gave advice on the landscape and environmental protection, traditional culture preservation and creating sustainable livelihood for local people, etc. The delegation also updated the progress of the implementation of 06 recommendations of UNESCO experts to Non nuoc Cao Bang UGGp since the evaluation mission in 2017 and suggested activities need to be deployed for the development of the geopark in 2022 and the following years.
After the field survey, on the afternoon of May 25th, the delegation met with the representative leader of the Cao Bang Provincial People’s Committee and leaders of Departments to report the preliminary survey results. On the whole, the delegation assessed the activities implemented in Non nuoc Cao Bang geopark positively and proposed some essential tasks to prepare for the revalidation mission in 2022.
Along with the field survey mission in Cao Bang, the delegation attended the Workshop on capacity building for the Vietnam geopark network and the Annual meeting of the Sub-committee for Vietnam UNESCO Global Geoparks 2202 organized in Cao Bang.
