Digital sharing experience on Unesco global geoparks between Khorat aspring geopark, Thailand and Non nuoc Cao Bang Unesco global geopark

On May 28th, 2021, the Management Board of Non nuoc Cao Bang geopark in collaboration with the Management Board of Khorat Geopark organized a digital sharing experience workshop on UNESCO Global Geoparks.

Overview of the workshop
There were the representatives of the management boards of Non nuoc Cao Bang UGGp and the geoparks of Thailand. This event was also joined by Mr. Guy Martini, Chairperson of UNESCO Global Geopark Council, and Associate Professor, Dr. Tran Tan Van, former Director of Vietnam Institude of Geology and Mineral resources, member of UNESCO Global Geopark Council.

The workshop focused on the experience on geopark management and development in each country. The representatives of Non nuoc Cao Bang UGGp informed to the workshop participant the experience and difficulties and initiatives on the development of Non nuoc Cao Bang UNESCO Global Geopark, the management structure of the Geopark, sustainable geo-tourism development through UNESCO Global Geopark model, the development of infrastructure systems in the geopark territory and geopark visibility, UNESCO Global Geopark education and communication in communities and schools; especially, the implementation of “Geopark ambassador club” in schools in Non nuoc Cao Bang UGGp territory.

Associate Professor, Dr. Jaroon Daughkarayom - Deputy Director of Education and Information of Khorat Geopark presented the geopark education in schools.
The representatives of Khorat Geopark, Thailand shared their experience on all educational levels on geopark, Geopark learning centers at Geo-schools, the development of geopark information centers at schools, and the management structure of the geopark. In addition, the participants actively exchanged and discussed the issues related to geopark management, the conservation and promotion of heritage, especially, geo-heritage for sustainable development.
With the objective to foster the international networking as well as to make full use of the experience on developing UNESCO Global Geoparks, Non nuoc Cao Bang UGGp and Khorat Geopark, Thailand reached an agreement to carry out a workshop on UNESCO Global Geopark education and “Geopark ambassador club” of Non nuoc Cao Bang UGGp, which creates an opportunity for teachers and students of the two Geoparks to exchange their experience on implementing and participating in geopark education and communication in schools.

In his speech, Mr. Guy Martini, Chairperson of UNESCO Global Geopark Council highly applauded the attempt and initiate of the two geoparks in co-organizing sharing experience on UNESCO Global Geoparks; an activity contribute to enhance the quality and effectiveness of UNESCO Global Geoparks in different countries. He also stated that implementing such activities plays an important role in the development of UNESCO Global Geopark title worldwide, and he thought that the initiative on a workshop to connect the teachers and students of the two geoparks to exchange experience on geopark education and communication in schools, especially, “Geopark ambassador club” is practical and can be shared among the UNESCO Global Geopark Network.
Associate Professor, Dr. Tran Tan Van, former Director of Vietnam Institude of Geology and Mineral resources, member of UNESCO Global Geopark Council said that this workshop is a great opportunity for both geoparks to exchange experience on developing Global Geopark title and he highly appreciated the mutual effort of the two geoparks in conducting exchanging and sharing activites with the objective to improve the contribution of geoparks to the social-economic development. He believed that it is essential for each Global Geopark to conduct sharing activities like this workshop and hoped that the Geoparks would continue their cooperation in maintaining and carying out exchaninging activities in future.
