On April 9, the 204th session of the UNESCO Executive Board began in Paris.

The session agenda includes over 30 items on the implementation of the programme approved by the General Conference, the decisions taken by the Executive Board and the General Conference at previous sessions, and other administrative, financial and personnel matters.

In particular, new nominations will be considered in the UNESCO Global Geoparks Programme, the action plan for the Memory of the World Programme, the activities of UNESCO institutes and centres, a draft memorandum of understanding between the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) and UNESCO, and other issues.

The discussions are to focus on reforms in the organisation, initiated by the new Director-General of UNESCO Audrey Azoulay.

The agenda also includes a number of draft decisions proposed by member states: Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) after 2019, the 8th World Water Forum, et al.

The 204th session of the UNESCO Executive Board will run through April 17, 2018.
