Interdisciplinary delegation of Phu Yen Province visit Cao Bang on exchanging experience in UNESCO Global Geopark development

In the afternoon of February 9th, 2023, a meeting on the management and development of UNESCO Global Geoparks took place at the meeting room of Cao Bang Department of Foreign Affairs. Participants of the meeting were the interdisciplinary delegation of Phu Yen Province headed by Mrs. Do Ngoc Thuy, Provincial Commissioner, Director of the Department of Foreign Affairs of Phu Yen Province and representative leaders of relevant Departments and Branches of Cao Bang Province. Mr. Nong Van Hung, Deputy Director of Department of Foreign Affairs chaired the meeting.

At the meeting, the delegates discussed issues related to the development and management of a UNESCO Global Geopark such as developing application dosser to submit to UNESCO, Geopark management structure, conservation,  management and promotion of heritage values, defining protection zones, management of development of tourism activities on the basis of UNESCO Global Geoparks, agricultural product developments, financing, etc.

In two days February 9th and February 10th , the delegation of Phu Yen conducted a field survey at some geosites and establishments on the experience routes in Non nuoc Cao Bang Geopark.

Phu Yen, which is located in South Central Viet Nam, is highly evaluated for its geological, geomorphological and biodiversity values. Among which, Da Dia reef, Hon Yen island are some famous landscapes. This region is also rich of tangible and intangible heritage including archeological and historical sites, temples, pagodas, mausoleums, shrines and the art of Bai Choi singing. The development of a Geopark in Phu Yen will optimize the overall values of geological, cultural, social and biodiversity values of the province in a sustainable manner, offer opportunities for scientific research and education, contributing to the social-economic development of the province. The proposed area for establishment of Phu Yen Geopark includes Tuy Hoa city, Song Cau town, Dong Hoa town of Tuy An district and part of Phu Hoa and Son Hoa districts, with a total area of about 1,575 km2.
