There were Assoc. Prof Tran Tan Van - Member of UNESCO Global Geoparks Council, Mrs. Do Thi Yen Ngoc - Director of Vietnam center on Karst and Geoheritage and representatives of the People’s Committee of the districts of Bao Lam and Bao Lac (Cao Bang) and Meo Vac (Ha Giang) participating in the survey.
The survey aims at evaluating the values and current conditions of geological, cultural sites, biodiversity and tourism infrastructure expected to be included in the new route. Based on the result of this survey, a detailed report on selected sites will be complied and submitted to competent authorities and UNESCO experts will be invited to participated the final field survey for the development of the 5th experiential route.
In the districts of Bao Lac and Bao Lam, Cao Bang Province, the team conducted a survey at Quan Thanh De Temple, the Nong’s mansion, Van An pagoda, Trong Nhia Hau, Ban Phuong view point, observation point of Khau Coc Cha Pass panorama, Thom Lom lake, Dong Mu Post, Khuoi Vin landscape, Tong Ac landscape.
The team primarily evaluated and selected interesting sites, among which Khau Coc Cha Pass is a highlight. Additionally, a number of Paleozoic fossils such as coral fossils, Fusulinid fossils and the presence of East West fault were found on the route. The team also suggested the construction of infrastructure system to promote the geosites on the route.
About the route connect the tow UNESCO Global Geoparks, Assoc. Prof. Tran Tan Van stated that this is the first route that connects the two Geoparks, and promote the development of the in-between area (Bao Lac and Bao Lam distric) which is not in the Geoparks’ area. The route has favourable natural conditions for development, after the construction of the route is completed, it will contribute to the promotion of the Geoparks in the region and worldwide, especially, enable tourists to experience the closed tours of Non nuoc Cao Bang and Dong Van Karst Plateau UGGps.
