Attending the event were representatives of UNESCO Office in Viet Nam, Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (MoCST), Vietnam National Commission for UNESCO (NatCom) and delegates from Ha Giang, Lang Son and Dak Nong Provinces.
On the side of Cao Bang, there were the presences of Mr. Trieu Dinh Le, Standing Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of Provincial People’s Council, Mr. Hoang Xuan Anh, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee, members of Standing Committee of the Provincial Party Committee, Standing Committee of the Provincial People’s Council, the Provincial People’s Committee, Provincial Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee, The National Assembly Delegation of Cao Bang province, Generals who are Cao Bang people, representative leaders of Departments and Branches and former leaders of the province, and a large number of local people and tourists.
Addressing the event, Mr. Trinh Truong Huy, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee affirmed that Cao Bang Culture, Sports and Tourism Week 2023 was a opportunity to commemorate and be glory in the homeland Cao Bang with a 524-year history of construction and development and 73rd anniversary of Cao Bang’s Liberation Day. It was also an excellent chance to communicate and promote geological, tangible and intangible heritage, landscapes, historical and cultural values to domestic and international tourists; enhance exchanges to attract investments, contributing to the sustainable development and prosperity of Cao Bang.
In 2018, the UNESCO Executive Board endorsed the Resolution on the approving the evaluation of Non nuoc Cao Bang as a UNESCO Global Geopark. This label has been contributing to the promotion of landscapes, geological, cultural, historical heritages of Cao Bang in particular and Viet Nam in general worldwide. Since 2018, Cao Bang has been actively participating in the activities of the Global Geoparks Network and regional Network. Four geopark tourism routes were constructed and put into operation; which helps the conservation and optimization of geological, cultural heritage and indigenous know-how, protection of environment and landscapes according to the recommendations of UNESCO experts. Thereby, ensuring the achievement of economic development goals while preserving and promoting distinct traditional cultural values.
At its meeting session in December 2022, the UNESCO Global Geopark Council approved the revalidation of Non nuoc Cao Bang as a UNESCO Global Geopark. This result proved the efforts of Cao Bang province in conserving the values of a Geopark to match with criteria and recommendations of UNESCO.
On this occasion, on behalf of UNESCO, Mrs. Tran Lan Huong, Head of the Natural Sciences Department, UNESCO Office in Viet Nam awarded the revalidation Certificate to Non nuoc Cao Bang Geopark.
With the objective to continue to widely communicate about the distinct values of Non nuoc Cao Bang UNESCO Global Geopark, attract tourists and contribute to tourism development, the Cao Bang Culture, Sports and Tourism Week 2023 was organized from September 27th to October 3rd with variety of interesting activities such as the 28th Viet Bac - Northwest Region III Fine Arts Exhibition, intangible heritage performances, paragliding performances with the theme “Flying over the highlands”, introduction of OCOP products and local specialties, traditional dish demonstration; flash mod with the participation of 3,000 people in traditional costumes at Kim Dong walking street and local and open sports tournaments.
