Survey activities within the framework of Asia Pacific Geopark Network (APGN) Geopark Development Forum 2024

From May 15 to May 17, 2024, the Non Nuoc Cao Bang Geopark Management Board participated in a field survey program at the heritage sites of Hong Kong Geopark, China.

Participating in the survey program were over 30 representatives from Geoparks in the Asia Pacific Region such as: Mudeungsan Geopark (Korea), Khon Kaen Geopark (Thailand), Sanqingshan Geopark, Danxiashan Geopark (China), Belitong Geopark (Indonesia), Oki Island Geopark (Japan), Langkawi (Malaysia), Lang Son Geopark (Vietnam)...

According to the program, delegates conducted surveys at prominent geological heritage sites of Hong Kong Geopark such as: Sai Kung volcanic rock area; High Island; Sharp Island exploring geological history, formation of volcanic rock columns and coastal terrain as well as promoting and proagate methods through the Hong Kong Geopark’s board system. Survey of the Northeast sedimentary rock area: Ap Chau Island, Kat O Island, and Lai Chi Wo Island to learn about geology, culture, tradition and life of indigenous people, the connection between Hong Kong Geopark and local people in preserving and promoting cultural values ​​and protecting geological heritage. In addition, delegates attending the program also visited the Lions Nature Education Center, the Hong Kong Science Museum, and Nina Park to understand more about the use of modern technology in promoting and advertising, propaganda about geological history, the habitat of ancient marine species, and how to display geological samples. Also in the survey program, delegates listened to reports and presentations on the transformation of exhibits at the Hong Kong Science Museum and the propaganda initiatives of the Hong Kong Geopark. Delegates also participated in a roundtable discussion on organizing effective propaganda activities at geoparks in the region.

Asia Pacific Geopark Network (APGN) Geopark Development Forum 2024 focuses on sharing experiences, difficulties, and challenges in the geopark management process. This is also the event that Hong Kong Geopark organized to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Global Geopark Network establishment.
